The first of its kind in Ireland, Mater Transformation is a dedicated unit embedded within a hospital that works closely with frontline staff, empowering them to collectively make sense of problems so we can co-design and deliver lasting, high impact solutions. Since its inception in 2013, Mater Transformation has developed a unique model which has been applied successfully to drive transformational change across multiple service areas.
The Mater Transformation website was designed with accessibility in mind. Clear and large type formats combined with minimal layouts that feed singular information to the user.
90% of websites are inaccessible to people with disabilities who rely on assistive technology. This is not acceptable.
Dark and light mode was introduced as a main toggle feature. Dark mode successfully cuts glare and reduces some blue light, both of which increase visual comfort. Dark mode opens up digital products to a wider audience contributing to a greater inclusivity.
There are huge benefits to switching to dark mode, but it must be a choice. Light mode is also preferential to users. The aim of increasing the availability of dark mode is to remove barriers to engagement. More dark mode options = more user choices. This increases the likelihood of great user experiences while encouraging energy-saving and sustainable software development.
